DuOuD

THEATRE STAGE

The lute-like oud is one of the great acoustic instruments of North Africa and the Middle East, but DuOuD have set out to change its image. Tunisian-born Jean-Pierre Smadja and Algerian-born master oud player Mehdi Haddab blend their North African heritage with the latest Western technology. The pair builds a musical cycle that looks to their African roots while absorbing and morphing contemporary music styles – breakbeats, jazz grooves and metal guitar. DuOuD is also the first band to mix the North African lute with electronic technology and they do it with an imaginative freedom that sets them apart from their contemporaries, landing them a welcome spot on the Theatre Stage at Wonderfruit.

DuOuD are supported by the French Embassy.
