Bio

Awkward Corners' initially began as an occasional solo project for Chris Menist. It started life in Islamabad, where Chris was living at the time. Initial recordings were made with local musicians in Pakistan and then subsequently in Thailand. This culminated in 'The Sweet Decay' that came out on Finders Keepers' Disposable Music in 2014, and led to a limited tape release on Boomkat/Reel Torque.

After a hiatus, Chris began work in 2017 on his debut called ‘Dislocation Songs'. Released on Shapes of Rhythm, what began as a series of musical sketches took shape over two years. Following collaborations with Sarathy Korwar on tabla, it developed into nine final pieces.

The album was warmly received and was followed a year later by 'Amateur Dramatics'. More jazz-tinged in musical flavor, this time, Chris teamed up with Tamar Osborn on horns, Kitty Whitelaw on vocals and David Leahy on bass. As well as a series of remixes for Emanative, Sneaky Jesus and Insolito Universo, Chris is currently working on his third album, and will be performing exclusive material from this latest project for his performance at Wonderfruit, alongside special guests.
