Bio

Ben UFO is one of London's most forward-thinking DJs, and a cornerstone of the post-dubstep bass music scene. A co-founder of Hessle Audio, a label that has continuously explored the outer edges of what can be considered club music, UFO is similarly adventurous during his DJ sets, bringing numerous styles together into an unpredictable yet cohesive flow. Having cut his teeth in early dubstep and drum' n' bass, his roots lie in UK rave culture, yet his selections cast the net wider, drawing new mutations of this culture into the orbit of house, techno and other global dancefloor sounds. In the club, his sets somehow manage to be simultaneously considered and raucous, sliding from sidewinding broken rhythms into an irresistible four-to-the-floor groove, broadsiding you with unexpected tangents, old favourites and bizarre secret weapons.

Unlike most DJs in the scene, UFO is active solely as a DJ and not as a producer or remixer. His only commercially available mix CDs to date are Rinse: 16 (2011) and Fabriclive 67 (2013), but he's released several underground mixtapes and contributed to numerous podcast series, from Boiler Room to Dekmantel. He hosts a weekly show on Rinse FM, and has made appearances on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix.
