Philip Huang will create an immersive public indigo dyeing experience in The Fields, where INDIGO WORLD will come to life with multiple indigo and mud dye vats. The triangular structure inspired by the golden ratio stands centrally in The Fields and becomes a communal space for friends to come together, dye indigo and engage in making and creation informed by the land.

Panels of hand-dyed indigo and dune fabrics form a dramatic yet calming backdrop, providing sanctuary from the sun, and everyone will be invited to dye indigo and mud. The vats will rotate over the four days with programming that will complement Indigo World by our friends and family.

In addition to dyeing, the vats will need to be kept alive. This becomes a nurturing exercise where the indigo will be fed with vegetable waste and juice from the land. Wonderers will learn that the conversation between indigo and fermentation is an exchange that requires care. The vibrant blue color we know as indigo dyeing is only possible through the care and process by our volunteers, collaborators and friends.

Indigo World at Wonderfruit is about making together and celebrating what we make with our hands, and natural ingredients that return to nature.

“You can dye whatever you bring - some might work, some might not, but we will find out. Some will make breathtaking masterpieces while other experiments could kill off a vat. We encourage people to continue learning and this is something cool to get to know, at any age. If you’re an experienced dyer, here is a chance to create your masterpiece while helping others learn about this beautiful process.” — Philip Huang
