TONTRAKUL is an instrumental band that plays a combination of Isaan folk with electronic music that is a combination of genres like electronica, worldbeat, nu-jazz, Isan folk and Mor lum (หมอลำ), a genre birthed and most prominent in the northeastern region of Thailand. The band was formed by Tontrakul Kaewyong, who wanted to create new sounds for Isaan music by experimenting with other musical genres but still ultimately retaining its unique accent. Through his innovative experimentation, the band honors Molam’s distinct character while introducing fresh accents from diverse musical traditions.
