Philip Huang Indigo World x Wonderfruit: Dyed by nature

Philip Huang Indigo World x Wonderfruit: Dyed by nature

A leaning tent of hand-dyed fabric calls to Wonderers from all corners of The Fields. Within it, Wonderers gather from sunrise to sunset, staining their fingertips and nailbeds deepest blue as they dye their own clothes with indigo, repeating the same ritual carried on by people thousands of years ago.

First launched in 2022 with Philip Huang, Indigo World is a beloved landmark at Wonderfruit. Here, we gather to celebrate a practical technique handed down from generation to generation. This year, the venue focuses on the idea of transformation—of plants into paste dye, yet also that of self and season, land and memory.

Preserving a living culture

Founded in Brooklyn by Philip Huang and Chomwan Weeraworawit in 2016, the brand merges modern apparel with indigenous knowledge as preserved by the artisans of Sakon Nakhon in Northeast Thailand. This area is historically the most impoverished region of the country, yet the heart of many cultural traditions and artistic heritage—much of which we share here at Wonderfruit.

Through the brand’s contemporary designs, Philip Huang preserves Sakon Nakhon’s community identity and heritage. And at Wonderfruit, Philip Huang, his friends and family return each year to guide creative workshops and daily dyeing sessions, re-connecting us to elements of indigo dyeing.

Beyond shades of truest blue

In 2024, we started growing indigo plants in The Fields. In the rainy season, these plants grow heavy with leaves and stalks that will eventually be harvested, fed into indigo vats to ferment and become that characteristic blue dye. This cycle of gathering, fermenting and dyeing has naturally become a part of what Wonderers can experience at Indigo World.

As we’ve grown, so has the ecosystem of experiences at Indigo World. Wonderers can experiment with a range of natural dyes and printing processes, including leaf tapping and staining clothes and dyeing with soil from the land.

In and around Indigo World, people gather for meals, workshops, yoga and soundscape performances, honoring different acts that bring people together.

This collection is a celebration of these rituals, centered on a hue of purest blue.

Three colorways of socks commemorate Indigo World, exhibiting the dyeing traditions of Sakhon Nakhon that draw from the earth, in indigo and soil from the land.

Even if you miss the chance to dye your own clothes and stain your hands deepest blue, you can wear and take these contemporary expressions of heritage home with you.

See you in The Fields.
