In traditional Northern Thai belief, the ‘Kwan’ is an inborn spirit which exists in all things, animate, and inanimate, which offers protection, vitality, and auspiciousness. The Bai Sri Ceremony is practiced to strengthen and restore the Kwan, or inner spirit, in order to increase our energy, courage, and contentment. Thai dance artist Khampha will lead a contemporary Bai Sri Su Kwan based on the tradition in order to call the Kwan back into our bodies, in this blending of Buddhist, Hindu, and traditional practices, maintaining the essence of this ancient practice while expressing in modern form.
Ronnarong (Ong) Khampha is a Northern Thai dancer and choreographer blending traditional Lanna dance with modern performance styles.
