Ethos

Our Ethos
At Wonderfruit, we encourage,
develop and innovate creative
solutions for mind and nature.
We explore art and culture to
catalyze growth.

Our approach to design
From venues to art installations, our builds are imaginatively put together using environmentally innovative materials brought to The Fields.

Where waste goes
By sorting, composting, recycling and upcycling with several partners, we divert more than 95% of all waste at Wonderfruit from ending up in a landfill.

We’re carbon positive
We take a responsible stance towards our carbon emissions every year. We always offset what we can't reduce and have been certified since 2017.

Our single-use stance
We avoid single-use items where we can and experiment with new alternatives. In 2019, we banned single-use cups altogether and used 200,000 fewer single-use cups.

Engaging our community
By activating our community who share this vision through activities like design competitions and participatory music initiatives.

Memories that give us goosebumps
2014
Story
Taking an idea dreamed up with more enthusiasm than knowledge, and tracking the steepest of learning curves. The approach to sustainability was very much well intended but still on the surface level. The early days of Wonderfruit were as challenging and chaotic as you’d expect: bold, broken, and brilliant. But it was mission accomplished in pairing environmental responsibility with fun.

2015
Story
Learning, and more learning. Building upon the idea of sustainability, our environmental mandates around upcycling began to dovetail into other pillars like food and workshops.
A strong sense of wanting to make the festival experience our own prevailed and internal workshopping saw the birth of a well-rounded ethos take shape.

Story
Shaking the public perception of Wonderfruit as a music festival in Asia, Wonderfruit really becomes our own as we begin experimenting with new materials to build and design with in a way that structures dissolve back into the land.
A clear methodology is established in our approach to architecture, waste, and water with a robust filtration system. Being thought-provoking through art and installations becomes a common theme.

Story
Having now established a unique identity amongst festivals from around the world, we challenged ourselves to build more. We began exploring human nature, and the intersections of our pillars.
Honing efficiency and sustainability, Wonderfruit hit its stride as an innovative platform for art, music, food, and ideas with genuine environmental credentials as a certified carbon neutral event.

Story
Shifting sites and shifting perspectives, Wonderfruit was then positioned as a cultural platform for experimenting and challenging. Viewing ourselves as a pop-up city, every element was examined.
From a full-participation empathy experiment to innovations in eco-consciousness and the early days of a permanent farm, success was mixed across new elements in the world of Wonderfruit.

2019
Story
With a bigger crowd and a broader mandate, we found focus in drawing connections between entertainment and progress. We banned all single-use cups and eliminated 95.4% of waste.
Hedonistic sustainability generates unmissable experiences in communal connectivity, underpinned by global, social, and environmental responsibility. The exploration of human behaviour became a core theme in The Fields.

The first Wonderfruit was a bold, broken and brilliant start to a beautiful story.
Really focusing on the programme beyond music, we finely tuned our ethos.
Welcoming thoughtful art installations and an experimental approach to experiences in The Fields.
The year we eased into our theme was the same year we became a certified carbon neutral event.
We moved to a new home, and thought of ourselves as a temporary city in which every element of the experience was challenged.
