Amazon Icons by Jules Domine

ECO PAVILION

Blending the natural mystics of Colombia and ancient lifestyles on the edge of extinction, all sprinkled with a hint of outstanding sports accomplishment, Amazon Icons is an unexpected talk you will be delighted to hear. The story begins in Eastern Antioquia, near the city of Medellín where flows the last free-flowing river of the area, the Rio Samaná. A wildly preserved place with a lavish bio-diversity and a violent history, the Samaná is similar to Amazonian rivers in many ways. As such, it is the perfect base camp and training ground for further expeditions. From the Samaná, travel into the magical reality of the Colombian Amazon and its prized jewel: the Chiribiquete Mountains. Two mythical rivers, the Apaporis and the Caquetá, have inspired awe and fascination to both the indigenous people that live on their shores and later settlers. As they hit the rocks of the Chiribiquete, the rivers go mad and hurtle down enormous rapids. With the upcoming first descent of the rapids in sight, this presentation will relate the incredible mythology, biology, and history of these iconic natural wonders and their region.
