As part of our evolution into a year-round cultural platform, we’re bringing the spirit of Wonderfruit to Bangkok and beyond. The first in our series of special experiences will take place on Wednesday 27 August at Baan Trok Tua Ngork.

The event is free for all to attend, but due to the intimate nature of the event, seats are extremely limited. You can request a spot here.

Sonic Minds: A living concert in Bangkok

This intimate listening gathering centres around Music for Rest Rooms, a transportive, meditative work performed live by James Greer of MSCTY_Studio and Japanese ambient music pioneer Yumiko Morioka, whose expressive piano performance will anchor the experience.

The experience stands as a preview of Sonic Minds’ Sound Mind program, which is dedicated to exploring the relationship between sound and personal well-being, and will debut at Wonderfruit 2025.

Music for Rest Rooms with Yumiko Morioka & MSCTY_Studio

Music for Rest Rooms takes the idea that music and sound have the power to awaken powerful and affirming memories, and is inspired by Yumiko’s own connection to olfactory memory via her work as an artisanal truffle visionary. Each of the five musical moments in Music for Rest Rooms is complemented by an aromatic cue and the live set flows across these musical memories, each piece connecting the audience to a different feeling, time, place and associated scent.

Slow Wonder florist Chitchanan Sukpong will frame the experience with Ikebana-inspired floral arrangements, adding a quiet poetry to the evening.

Taste joins the experience with a curated journey that traces Yumiko’s life: the calmness of ambient music, the spice of fire and the decadence of chocolate.

The experience unfolds at beautiful Baan Trok Tua Ngork

Set within Baan Trok Tua Ngork, a lovingly restored, century-old shophouse in Chinatown that blends past, present and future, the concert takes over the top floor at The Living Room, a space inspired by generations of family gatherings in that same building.

Choose between two performances

The evening will be split into two performances, making the experience accessible to more guests while giving each audience the chance to fully take in the special atmosphere of a night at Baan Trok.

Early show: 6:30pm–8:30pm

Late show: 8:30pm–10:30pm

How to reserve your place

Fill out this form to let us know you’re interested in attending.

While the event is free to attend, its intimate nature means seating is extremely limited. We kindly ask that you request a spot only if you are certain you can join us, so every seat can be fully enjoyed.

About Yumiko Morioka

Yumiko Morioka is a classically trained Japanese pianist and composer, celebrated for her 1987 album Resonance—a meditative work in the kankyō ongaku style, inspired by Brian Eno, Japanese environmental music and Erik Satie. Originally heard in Japanese documentaries, clinics and healing shops, the album slipped into obscurity before being rediscovered by a new generation of listeners.

After years in the US, she lost everything—including all her musical equipment and recordings—to the 2017 California wildfires. She relocated back to her native Japan and opened her own chocolate shop in Tokyo. In 2020, Resonance was reissued by Métron Records and Yumiko became recognized as a pioneer of ambient environmental music. Today, she composes for various projects, including Sonic Minds with MSCTY_Studio and Wonderfruit, while crafting artisan truffles under her own brand.

About Sonic Minds

Sonic Minds, created by Wonderfruit in collaboration with James Greer and Nick Luscombe of MSCTY_Studio, explores the intersection of Mind, Nature and Sound. Bringing together musicians, scientists, artists and spiritual practitioners, it is an exploration of new ways that music can be medicine and soundscapes form pathways to wellness.

Each activation aims to ground and enhance the listener’s well-being by connecting with spiritual traditions, while forming new links with modern science and contemporary life. This year, Sonic Mind’s installations, experiences and performances seek to enhance personal, collective and communal experiences of sound at Wonderfruit and beyond.
